Gemfields Resources Plc is an AIM quoted coloured gemstone exploration and mining company with its main operations in Zambia.

The Company has been actively involved in exploring opportunities in the gemstone sector in Zambia since 2000, with a strategy to develop its existing emerald and amethysts mining interests and to acquire and progress further gemstone assets in Zambia.

The company’s resource development business is at present located in the Ndola Rural Emerald Restricted Area ("NRERA") of the Kafubu emerald area in Zambia.

Gemfields’ Mbuva-Chibolele mine has been in commercial production since June 2006 and has sold circua US$ 1.8m. In August 2007, the Company discovered at 10cm long, 10,050 carat emerald.

Gemfields has a 50/50 joint venture with the Government of Zambia in the Kariba amethyst mine located in southern Zambia near Lake Kariba. Kariba has a has a large resource potential.

Gemfields intends to further enhance profitability through downstream integration of gemstone cutting, polishing and distribution.
